his course provides the practical nursing student with an introduction to the principles of pharmacology along with the skills required to administer medications. Topics covered include a basic overview of drug classifications, basic pharmacological principles, dosage calculations, the role of the nurse when administering medications, legal regulations related to medications, components of the medication order, and documentation. Students will practice skills related to administering medications via the oral, topical, and parenteral route in the nursing skills laboratory. Emphasis is placed on the application of the nursing process and maintaining safety at all times when administering medications. In this course, students will be exposed to answering practice assignments and test questions from different external exam companies.
